Marketplace Health Insurance Changes 2025

Marketplace Health Insurance Changes: What You Need to Know for Open Enrollment 2025

Let’s talk about what’s shifting behind the scenes in the health insurance world—and what you need to be prepared for heading into this year’s Open Enrollment.

Marketplace Rules Are Changing (Again)

This year, the federal government introduced new rules for Marketplace insurance—then quickly paused or modified some of them due to legal and administrative challenges. While these rules are in flux, it’s critical to stay ready with the right documents just in case things pick up again.

If You’re Losing Coverage—Have Proof Ready

If you’re losing employer coverage, COBRA, or Medicaid, you’ll likely need to upload proof of that loss before your new plan can be activated. Even if enforcement is currently paused, don’t delay:

✅ Collect your loss-of-coverage letter

✅ Be prepared to upload documents during your application

✅ Understand that your plan may not be active until verification is complete

Tax Filing = Required

To keep your subsidies and Marketplace coverage, you MUST file your federal taxes. Period. If you’ve received tax credits in the past and haven’t filed your taxes, your coverage—and subsidy—could be denied or revoked.

➡ If your income is significantly different this year, be prepared to show:

  • Most recent tax return
  • W-2 or 1099
  • Self-employment ledger or other income proof

Don’t wait! Gather this now so you’re not scrambling during Open Enrollment.

Know What You’ll Need for Your Appointment

To make sure your application process runs smoothly, have these ready:

✔ Full legal names & Social Security Numbers for everyone applying

✔ Date of birth

✔ Immigration status documentation (if applicable)

✔ Proof of loss of coverage

✔ Income documents (as current as possible)

If you’ve recently had a baby or someone in your household has a new immigration status, let’s go over what’s needed together.

Prepare Now, Stress Less Later

These changes are meant to verify eligibility and prevent fraud—but they also create more steps for applicants. I want your enrollment to be quick, accurate, and drama-free, so the more prepared we are going into your call, the faster we can get your plan submitted and activated.
