Marketplace Open Enrollment 2027 Updates: New Plans & Important Changes

Marketplace Open Enrollment Is Almost Here: What You Need to Know

It’s officially October, which means Open Enrollment begins next month! As we get closer, I want to share some important updates and a few things you can do now to make the enrollment process as smooth as possible.

Step 1: Make Sure I Have Your Current Contact Information

The first thing I need from you is your current email address and phone number.

This year, the Marketplace is introducing an additional security verification step to better protect consumers. As your broker, I’ll need to send you a one-time verification link that authorizes me to access your Marketplace application and assist you with your enrollment.

Without completing this step, I won’t be able to help manage your application, compare plans, or complete your enrollment.

A New Insurance Carrier Is Coming to Texas

One of the biggest changes I’m learning about this year is the addition of a new Marketplace insurance carrier called Antidote Health.

Antidote Health has operated in other states and is expanding into Texas and Georgia for the upcoming plan year.

While I won’t have access to complete plan details until late October, here’s what I know so far:

  • Their model appears to emphasize virtual-first healthcare.
  • Primary care may be largely provided through telehealth.
  • Mental health services may also have a strong virtual component.
  • Virtual urgent care appears to be a major focus.

For individuals who don’t visit the doctor frequently or are comfortable using telemedicine, these plans may offer an affordable alternative.

However, I still need to review:

  • Provider networks
  • Prescription coverage
  • Plan types (HMO, EPO, etc.)
  • Overall benefits

Before I recommend any plan, I’ll make sure it fits your healthcare needs—not just your budget.

Why You May Not See Every Available Plan

Many people ask why I don’t send quotes for every Marketplace plan available.

The answer is simple:

I narrow the choices to the plans that are most likely to meet your specific needs.

When preparing your quotes, I review factors such as:

  • Your doctors
  • Your medications
  • Your expected healthcare usage
  • Your budget
  • Your preferred provider network

My goal isn’t to overwhelm you with dozens of options—it’s to identify the plans that make the most sense for your situation.

Higher Out-of-Pocket Maximums

One change that has already been announced is an increase in the maximum allowable out-of-pocket limit for Marketplace plans.

For the upcoming plan year:

  • Individual plans may have out-of-pocket maximums up to $12,000
  • Family plans may have out-of-pocket maximums up to $24,000

Remember, this is the highest allowable design. Not every plan will have these maximums, but it’s important to understand how plan designs continue to evolve each year.

Premiums Are Also Expected to Increase

Based on the information available so far, Marketplace premiums are expected to increase by approximately 16% on average, although actual increases will vary by carrier and plan.

Final rates won’t be available until late October, so I’ll be reviewing each carrier carefully before providing recommendations.

Help Me Prepare Your Quotes

If you’d like your quotes as soon as they’re available, please send me any updates now, including:

  • Changes to your income
  • New medications
  • New doctors or specialists
  • Changes to your household
  • Changes in family size
  • Updated contact information

Having accurate information before Open Enrollment begins allows me to prepare more accurate recommendations and minimizes the need to rerun quotes multiple times.

Watch for Emails and Newsletter Updates

Throughout October, I’ll continue sharing Marketplace updates as I receive them.

Be sure to:

  • Watch your email for important enrollment information.
  • Read my newsletter for Marketplace updates.
  • Respond promptly if I request additional information.

The more prepared we are before November 1, the smoother your Open Enrollment experience will be.

As always, my goal is to help you find the plan that best fits your healthcare needs and budget.
