Still Time to Make Changes: Key Insurance Reminders Before Jan 15
Happy New Year!
Now that main open enrollment has wrapped up (deadline was December 15), it’s time to take care of some crucial follow-up tasks so you don’t get caught off guard this January.
Here’s what you need to check right now to ensure your insurance is active and accurate for 2026:
Still Want to Make Changes? Deadline is January 15
If your plan auto-renews but you want to switch it, you still have time to make changes—but only until January 15th for a February 1 start. Don’t wait—get on my schedule today so we can review and update your plan if needed.
Heads-up: Starting this year, if you don’t update your application annually, you could face monthly penalties. Let’s stay ahead of that!
Check Your Primary Care Provider (PCP)
Double-check that the correct PCP is listed on your insurance card. Even if I submitted this info during enrollment, carriers sometimes drop or change it during processing.
- Need a January update? You must call your insurance company directly and request a backdate—as long as you haven’t already visited a doctor.
- Need a February change? I can help—just reach out.
Verify Your Payment & Auto-Pay Setup
By now, your first payment should have been drafted if you set up auto-pay. Still unsure?
- Log in to your portal
- Make sure no payment is due
- Don’t risk a coverage lapse!
Grace periods:
- If you don’t get a tax credit: 30 days
- If you do get a tax credit: 90 days
But don’t wait. Missing payments can delay or cancel claims.
Access Your Digital ID Cards
Most insurance portals now have digital ID cards available:
- Download the app if one is available
- Save your cards to your phone
- Don’t stress about whether the physical card arrives in time
