I get asked often how someone would know that they have picked the right plan for them when there are so many options and so many variables. It is true. There are many variables. Today I would like to discuss this topic – focusing on HOW YOU USE YOUR HEALTH CARE BENEFITS.
How you use your health benefits is important. This determines the type of plan you will need and can help me help you select the best plan for you and your family. I can not tell you how many clients I have worked with who were paying huge premiums for plans with all these benefits that they never use, OR, how many clients were paying huge premiums for plans with none of the benefits that they use on a regular basis, and thus having to pay so much in out-of-pocket expenses.
Many people pick their plans solely based on:
- Deductible
- Co-pays
- Cost of the monthly premium
These are in fact, often, not the smartest ways to make the decision of which plan to pick.
I find that in some instances, one could choose to pay a little bit more for the monthly premium, and in turn, get a whole lot more benefits. But it comes down to knowing that you have these options, and ultimately having an experienced broker to help you.
In order to get the most out of your plan, an experienced broker like me, can help you pre-determine which benefits are vital to you, for your situation, and then find plans based on those benefits.
Within the plan options that you find, you can then determine the other factors such as:
- Plan type (HMO, PPO, etc.)
- Out-of-pocket expenses
- Co-pays and deductible
- Cost of the monthly premium
You’ll likely land up with a few choices that allow you to balance the benefits you’ll need and use with overall cost.
This is one way I set myself apart as a broker. I truly try to assist you, from the first step, in ensuring that you are not overpaying for any aspect of your health care, as well as getting the most beneficial benefits that you will actually use on your health care coverage plan.
