Let’s talk a little bit about my process and why getting all the info I need upfront is the best way to go.
I get a lot of questions or inquiries about providing health insurance.
I think most people don’t realize it is not as simple as “I need health insurance for my family of four”.
Or “I’m 52 years old, single, I need health insurance”.
That’s just part of the information that I need.
Let’s outline my process:
- I want you to schedule a first consultation.
- There is no charge for my consultation.
- This appointment allows me to gather the information I need to give you a proper quote.
- It allows me to discover if I can assist you. If I’m wasting your time, you’re wasting my time, if I’m not giving you an accurate quote.
- To avoid going back and forth multiple times I need the following:.
- If I get all the information I need to start, I can give you an actual quote that we can work through, and then make tweaks from there.
- For example, not only do I need everybody’s date of birth
- I need you:
- home zip code
- what doctors do you use
- what medications you’re taking
- I need to know how you use your health insurance.
- Do you only go once a year?
- Do you do regular labs quarterly?
- Do you go to a doctor so they can monitor some kind of chronic condition?
- Do you travel a lot?
- Do you have a kid that goes to college somewhere else other than here?
- And importantly -your income
- Are you self-employed or not?
- All these things will help determine the right quote I can give you so that we can work through plans that will work for you. If you don’t know how to plug in the information yourself, you’re not going to pick the right plan. You’re going to either base it on the fact that it sounds good, the premium is cheap, etc.,
- Having an agent like me assist you with this process is vital because I help you navigate various issues such as:
- If I get all the information I need to start, I can give you an actual quote that we can work through, and then make tweaks from there.
- Is your doctor in-network?
- Is your medication covered?
- Do you need referrals or not?
- Next is to ensure that I enter your income correctly to get the right premium.
- You must go through the process with me because then I can give you the most accurate quote to start.
- We then scheduled another meeting to go through the quotes.
- I answer your questions on the quotes.
- And then we walk through it, you can check with your doctors to confirm they take whatever plan we’re looking at.
- There’s some work to it.
- But if we do all that work in the beginning, then there are no surprises for you later on in the year.
- Because then you’ll remember “Oh yeah, she told me what my copay would be for this specialist”, or “I would have to get a referral before I go do this”, or “My medication is not going to be covered, I need to use a discount card”. Any of those things, if you know ahead of time, it helps.
Please bear with me in the process, you can’t just get a quick quote. Because if someone tries to give you a quick quote, I promise you, you’re not probably getting the right coverage. Because there’s no way to do that and get you the right coverage without knowing all those things. And not all agents will do that. They will just show you what the cheapest plan is. And say here, here’s a plan that only costs you $300 a month, and you pick it and then you find out no doctors take it and nothing is covered and you’re paying $300 a month for nothing. Sticking with the process will get you the best coverage possible!
